About
General Protection Fault is a weekly computer issues program, which airs from Fairbanks, Alaska. This radio show has been entertaining and educating our listeners with computer talk they can use for the past six years.
On this magazine-style program, we discuss recent tech news and offer our own stylized commentary. Our web segment, the aptly named "404 OF THE WEEK”, takes an in-depth look at a new or established website. We also routinely review the newest and latest computer and console products, and we feature interviews with local computer folks, game developers, Internet businesses, computer training clinics and other tech professionals regarding a multitude of electronic concerns. All of this information, in audio files no less, is stored on our companion website, http://www.gpfault.org/, which you are at right now.
GPF Producer Jeremy Smith and his co-host Ivan Baird have been educating listeners for 6 years now. Since the show incorporates humor along with interesting tech-knowledge (har-har), it attracts computer gurus and new users of all ages! In fact, many of our listeners have compared us to a tech version of NPR's car help/hinderance program Car Talk... incredibly entertaining, yet still very informative and accessible.
6 years is a long time. Over the years we have talked with many companies and reviewed even more products and websites... in fact, thinking about all of those days and weeks spent is rather ridiculous so I won't dwell on it too long... just long enough to give you a short list (by no means all-inclusive) of who we have had dealings with over the years: -Symantec -Nvidia -ABIT -Crucial -Plextor -AMD -Lexmark -Seasonic -PC Power & Cooling -PayPal -eBay -MSI -Logitech -Viewsonic -HP/Compaq -Peachpit Press -Maxtor -ATI -Microsoft -Intel -Roxio ...all of these AND the inventor of Tetris too!
Rogue's Gallery Jeremy Smith, the program's producer & host, has built numerous computer systems and has had a genuine love of computers since 1984. He is the one who assigns specific products to the correspondents for review and conducts the show's interviews. He enjoys discussing the technology behind computers and consoles while maintaining a thin veneer of control when spouting off the latest buzzwords. He is also the one responsible for just about every word you read on this website, being that in his spare time he is the sorta webmaster.
Ivan Baird, GPF's co-host and the gaming/hardware correspondent, has been tooling around with computers and games since the gray and black Pong box back in the early 80's. Our workhorse of sorts, his specialty is anything related to hardware and gaming.
Iris Fabrizio, a long-time listener, first-time GPFer, gives us the welcome view and opinion from the fairer sex... unlness its involving DOA 4 or Soul Calibur, and then she is anything but fair. Iris deals with research, reviews, image manipulation, article writing, setting up web features and just generally keeping everyone motivated and excited about the wonderful world of GPF... she does the most work.
Chris Nutt is a Web Designer who hails from Fife, Scotland. He has been using computers from the age of 9 and has used systems from the ZX Spectrum to Amiga A1200 to his current Athlon 850 PC. He has put up with a wide variety of system noise from the beeping of a speccy tape loading to whine of fans in modern PCs. Direct quote, "The question I ask is why should a piece of technology that many of us use so often and so much be so noisy? You wouldn't accept it from your TV or VCR, then why your PC? This is often how I approach any piece of hardware now, DVD drives are a good example so many are so noisy they defeat their purpose in playing DVD movies." Basically, Chris is here so we can have amazingly indepth features, weird spelling slike 'colour', claim international status... and have somewhere to crash when we invade Edinburough.
Joel Martin, aka. Agentskittles, annoys Jeremy about updating the webpage.... nothing more
